Well the study bit of my trip is learning kinesiotaping. It's the latest thing in sports. Recently one of the physios i know from SMA NSW was on the footy show talking about kinesiotaping for rugby league players. It's quite funny that a technique invented by a chiropractor would be as readily adopted by physios but there you have it...
The trainer is actually Swiss and there were 11 of us there learning. Most of us were either physios or chiros but there was an osteopath, a massage therapist and a personal trainer as well.
So the first day is KT1 which is an intro to the basics... the theory of what the tape does and some basic taping to inhibit or facilitate certain muscles.
The funny thing is i vaguely remember meeting the creator of kinesio Dr. Kenzo Kase at Palmer college years ago when i was there for WCCS. He was promoting his new technique. I didnt have much interest then but what i do remember was the different colour tapes (a very girly thing to remember - the colours i like...). I also remember that Dr. Kase didnt speak any english and had a young guy translating for him. I think i spoke very bad Japanese to him as well...
So we all kept some of the tape on overnight to see how it would feel. Well i had a look at my back in the mirror and it just looks funny... pretty colours...
Pulled some of it off and it's not as sticky as rigid tape but ow does it hurt coming off and I'm not even hairy at all... now i know how the rugby players feel pulling tape off... lol
Actually one of the guys in the course is actually one of the directors of FICS education (ie the ICSSD). He is such a laugh though... i dont know how much of him to take seriously. like we would be talking about chiro politics and he's a very smart man... and then we are kinesiotaping and he's got some weird fascination with pulling it all off... and he's the one with hair everywhere... owwww...
So it's interesting how much of the kinesiotaping theory is similar to other techniques such as trigenics. Am really excited now to use it...
Went for a walk on the sun night around newcastle gateshead area. The sunset was beautiful and i dont think the photos do it justice. There's also a bridge that looks like a smaller version of the Sydney harbour bridge.
