Roadtrip Day 4: Oxford to Paignton (Torbay Devon)

7th Oct, 2010

Well after leaving the Duke of Marlborough hotel (my emergency accommodation) I drove down to Oxford for the morning.

The area is famous for the university so i thought i'd just pass through... It's not one university campus but a whole heap of different buildings that are schools - eg. school of physics or school of chemistry. There's also a lot of colleges around.
Didnt stay long as parking is a pain but long enough to look around and be jealous of how nice it would be to have classes in old stone buildings. Reminds me of an older version of the main quad at Usyd.

McTimmony Chiropractic college is also about 10 mins south of Oxford at Abingdon. The college emblem is a centaur... because the college specialises in animals as well as humans. I also remember from WCCS (chiro student conference) that the college has its own technique... but it's an interesting one... its light touch... and for some reason reminds me of reiki...

I intended to go to Tintagel so booked to stay in Paignton which is south england in devon county... on the coast again. Thought i might visit dartmouth castle before heading to Cornwall to Tintagel which is on the west coast of engand.

Whilst driving through Oxfordshire to Devon, i decided to do stonehenge as it was on the way. It is also close to Salisbury which is where i intended to visit after i go back to aecc and bournemouth.

There's not much to stonehenge. I must admit its a little boring cos you just walk around a look at a heap of stones. There is an audio tour you do as you walk around and it makes it more interesting. I guess the interesting things to note is the alignment of the stones - the fact that there is astronomical significance in the alignment. Also the stones are very very heavy so at the time of building its amazing that it was even built as they had pretty primitave tools, no heavy lifting machinery or anything.

Being there just reminded me of the references in the Matthew Reilly book... i think it was 6 sacred stones...

Here are a few photos of Stonehenge... actually 1 photo but me mucking around with settings on my camera...

More photos of Stonehenge here.
